New Delhi: In a significant development, a 12-member team from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrived at the official residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with a search warrant related to the excise policy case. Subsequently, Chief Minister Kejriwal has been placed under arrest by the Enforcement Directorate.

High Court denied protection from arrest

The ED's action follows the decision of the Delhi High Court to reject Chief Minister Kejriwal's plea for protection from arrest in the liquor policy case. The central agency had summoned Kejriwal for questioning regarding alleged financial irregularities, which he had consistently refused to comply with, citing the illegality of the summons.

First sitting chief minister arrested

Arvind Kejriwal's arrest marks a historic moment as he becomes the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested by law enforcement agencies. The arrest is linked to the ongoing investigation into an alleged liquor scam, making him the fourth Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader to face arrest in the case, following Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Vijay Nair.

Enforcement Directorate's interrogation

The Enforcement Directorate is currently interrogating Chief Minister Kejriwal regarding the liquor policy case. This development comes on the heels of the Delhi High Court's decision, indicating the agency's swift action in the matter. AAP has expressed concerns over the possibility of Kejriwal's arrest, with the Chief Minister seeking urgent relief from the Supreme Court.

AAP's response and allegations

Reacting to the arrest, Delhi Minister Imran Hussain termed it as unfortunate and alleged it to be a conspiracy aimed at thwarting the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal. He expressed confidence in the people of Delhi, stating that they stand in support of Kejriwal amidst the BJP's actions.
