New Delhi: In the court proceedings that were being held to decide the fate of the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in the Delhi Liquor Policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court has given a verdict allowing his bail on Thursday. This verdict comes after careful consideration of the bail plea submitted by Kejriwal, who was implicated in a money laundering case associated with the now-defunct Delhi excise policy of 2021-22.

Verdict reserved earlier in the day

Earlier on Thursday, the Delhi court had reserved its verdict on Kejriwal’s bail plea. This followed the chief minister's arrest in connection with allegations of money laundering linked to the controversial excise policy. The case has drawn significant attention due to its political implications and the involvement of high-profile figures.

Virtual proceedings for health examination

In addition to the bail plea, the court also reserved its decision on a request by Kejriwal to allow his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, to participate in virtual proceedings. This request was made to ensure her presence during Kejriwal's medical examination in jail, which is part of the legal process to assess his health condition.

Court hearings

Judge Niyay Bindu of the Rouse Avenue Court presided over the hearings, which spanned two days. The judge emphasized the need for a timely resolution, urging all parties to present concise arguments to avoid indefinite delays in the proceedings.

Allegations and arrest

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on charges of being involved in a conspiracy to launder money allegedly received as kickbacks. These kickbacks were purportedly obtained by creating intentional loopholes in the Delhi liquor policy of 2021-22. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed that these loopholes were designed to benefit specific liquor vendors, with the alleged bribes being used to fund the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) election campaign in Goa.

Kejriwal's defense

Kejriwal has vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that the ED is operating an extortion racket. He maintains that the charges against him are politically motivated and unfounded.
