Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education on Wednesday announced that the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) as per National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is ready and textbooks for the same will be developed for the 2024 academic session.

According to the information released by the NCF, from now onwards the board exams will be conducted twice a year, following which students will be allowed to retain the best score. The move has been taken by the ministry to ensure that students have enough time and opportunity to perform well. This will help the students to decide on the subject they have prepared and appear for the one that they are ready with.

The board exams will assess the understanding, and achievement of competencies rather than months of coaching and memorisation.

In addition to this, students of Class 11 and 12 will have to study two languages from now on and at least one language must be an Indian language and choices of subjects will not be restricted to streams. Students after this move will get the flexibility to choose the subjects.

“In due course of time, school boards are to develop capacities to offer ‘on demand’ exams in due course of time. Besides board exam test developers and evaluators will have to go through university-certified courses before taking up this work,” it said.

New curriculum for class 3 to 12 will be futuristic

The new framework has also noted that the current practice of ‘covering’ textbooks in classroom will be avoided. Adding to this, Under NEP, the work of making rooted and futuristic reading material and textbooks from class 3 to class 12 is going on based on the requirements of the 21st century and the basic ideas of India.
