In a shocking revelation concerning the hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a woman in Mumbai on Sunday morning, police presented new evidence in court on Monday. The accused, Mihir Shah, is alleged to have been driving the vehicle that struck the woman and then switched seats with his driver to evade responsibility.According to police statements made in court, Mihir Shah, 24, reportedly dragged the victim on the cars bonnet for nearly one-and-a-half kilometers before swapping seats with his driver, Rajrishi Rajendrasingh Bidawat. The police further revealed that Bidawat then reversed the vehicle and ran over the woman a second time before fleeing the scene in an attempt to mislead investigators.Arrests and Court ProceedingsWhile Mihir Shah remains at large, his father, Shinde Sena leader Rajesh Shah, and driver Bidawat have been arrested. Both were presented before the metropolitan magistrate court in Sewri on Monday. Bidawat was remanded to police custody for a day, while Rajesh Shah was placed in judicial custody and subsequently granted bail.The incident occurred early Sunday morning when Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, was killed by a speeding BMW, allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, as she rode a two-wheeler with her husband, Pradeep Nakhwa, 50. We have recovered CCTV footage which proves that Mihir and Bidawat interchanged their seats, police informed Metropolitan Magistrate Suhas Bhosale, presenting a clip from the footage. Police disclosed that after the collision, Mihir contacted his father, who allegedly instructed him to flee and directed Bidawat to take the blame.Police Intervention and ConfessionPublic Prosecutor Bharti Bhosale told the court that the victim was dragged between the tyre and the bumper for one-and-a-half kilometers. After stopping the vehicle and removing her, Bidawat allegedly took over the driving, reversed, and ran over the victim again before escaping. The accused then headed towards Bandra via the Sea Link, where the car eventually broke down. Police stated that the two men attempted to tamper with the vehicles registration number and stickers at Kalanagar before Mihir escaped, leaving Bidawat with the car.Rajesh Shah reached the spot later and told Bidawat that he had called for a tow vehicle, but we reached before that and nabbed both of them, a police officer recounted. The driver confessed, revealing that Shah had directed him to take responsibility for the accident.
