BMW hit-and-run case: Mihir Shah sent to judicial custody for 14 days

New Delhi: Mihir Shah, the primary suspect in the Worli hit-and-run incident, was placed in judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday. Shah was arrested on July 9, after accusations of crashing his BMW into a scooter, which killed a woman.

Who is Mihir Shah?

Mihir, 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader aligned with the Eknath Shinde faction. Rajesh Shah was also detained by the Worli police but was subsequently released on bail.

When did it happen?

The accident occurred on July 7, when a BMW struck a couple riding a scooter on Annie Besant Road in Worli. Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged for nearly 1.5 km, which led to her death. Her husband, Pradip, sustained injuries in the incident.

Attempts to evade arrest

After the accident, Mihir Shah attempted to evade the police by shaving his beard to alter his appearance. However, he was arrested on July 9 at a resort in Virar, a suburb near Mumbai.

Mihir Shah's night out leads to accident

According to reports, Mihir Shah had been partying with friends at a bar in Juhu before the accident. He drove his friends home in a Mercedes and then decided to take a BMW for a 'joy ride' on Marine Drive. Near Haji Ali, he allegedly switched seats with his driver and took over the wheel.

His driver was also arrested and placed in 14-day judicial custody on July 11. Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, was detained on July 7 in connection with the case, as the BMW was registered in his name. He was granted bail on July 8.
