Blow to Congress in Bihar; Jan Adhikar Party chief Pappu Yadav may quit party: Report

Former Bihar MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav may leave Congress. Today is the last day of nomination for the second phase Lok Sabha seats including Purnia. Pappu Yadav had recently merged his party with Congress. 

Congress has already given an ultimatum that if Pappu Yadav does not withdraw his nomination. 

 

Pappu Yadav filed his nomination from Purnea

Pappu Yadav, a five-time former MP who joined Congress last month, filed his nomination from Bihar's Purnea Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate on Thursday, setting the stage for a triangular contest in constituency. 

Purnea seat was given to RJD

In the INDIA bloc's seat-sharing arrangement, the Purnea seat was allocated to the RJD, which is contesting 26 of Bihar's 40 seats and the Congress nine. The Left parties got the remaining five seats. 

Meanwhile, Pappu Yadav earlier won Purnea seat thrice in the 1990s.

Pappu Yadav joined Congress recently

Jan Adhikar Party leader Pappu Yadav joined the Congress on March 20, 2024 and announced the merger of his outfit. He is the husband of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ranjeet Ranjan.
