Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently made an emotional appeal to Jharkhand voters, emphasising key local issues under the slogan “Roti, Beti, Maati” during BJP’s high-stakes election campaign in the state.

Chouhan, addressing a public gathering, promised, “I assure you on behalf of Prime Minister Modi and JP Nadda that if BJP is victorious in Jharkhand, we will protect your ‘roti’, ‘beti’, and ‘maati’." These elements, he explained, symbolised key issues affecting voters in the state.

'Roti, Beti, Maati' — Addressing unemployment, women's safety, and land issues

In his speech, Chouhan clarified that 'roti' refers to the rampant unemployment in Jharkhand, 'beti' underscores the rising concerns of 'love jihad' and violence against women, while 'maati' represents the growing threat of 'land jihad' due to illegal immigration. This messaging has particularly struck a chord with women voters, who are increasingly rallying behind BJP’s campaign.

Women voters forge emotional connect with BJP

The BJP’s campaign has seen a significant positive response from women voters, who have connected emotionally with the party's promises. This shift indicates a potential realignment of traditional vote banks, which have historically been loyal to the JMM and Congress.
