New Delhi: BJP MP Sambit Patra has called on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government to address serious allegations surrounding the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. During a press conference, Patra questioned the government’s motives for allegedly offering money to the victim’s family, suggesting a cover-up.
“A person offers money when he is corrupt and tries to hide something,” Patra stated, demanding transparency and answers from the state authorities. He emphasized the need for clarity on why money was offered to the victim's father, who refused the bribe.
On Wednesday, the victim’s father expressed deep frustration with how the police handled the case. He accused the authorities of pressuring the family into cremating the body swiftly, despite their desire to keep it longer. “We wanted to keep the body of our daughter, but extraordinary pressure was mounted on us,” he said.
Patra echoed the family's concerns, highlighting the crucial questions raised by the victim’s father. One of the most significant was regarding an alleged offer of money from the District Collector, which the father rejected.
Patra also condemned the authorities for making the family wait for hours after informing them of their daughter’s death. He raised concerns over the police's behavior and revealed another troubling claim: the family was coerced into signing a blank document. Patra emphasized the gravity of these allegations, demanding a thorough investigation. “The questions raised by the father are of paramount importance and should be the foundation of the investigation,” Patra stressed.
