During his visit to Mumbai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had discussions with Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde. The brainstorming session included the core committees of the BJP in eight states. Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Haryana are among them.

The discussion on seat-sharing between the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP in Maharashtra was one of the meeting's highlights last night. The BJP leadership discussed candidates for the approx. 150 Lok Sabha seats during a lengthy meeting that lasted more than six hours until late last night.

Conclusions formed

It is understood that the Maharashtra core committee of the BJP has arrived at a seat-sharing arrangement. The formula states that the BJP will run for 32 of the 48 seats, with 12 seats going to the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, and 4 seats going to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar.

During a recent visit to Mumbai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had conversations with allies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Sources claim that Mr. Shah gave Mr. Shinde and Mr. Pawar instructions to handle the BJP in the general election and promised Sena and the NCP "full support" in the concurrent state polls. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of the Congress, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and the Nationalist Congress Party—Sharadchandra Pawar—oppose the BJP-Sena-NCP combination.

Looking forward

The BJP election committee will make the final decision during its meeting, and this weekend—roughly a week after the first list of 195 names—the second list of candidates might be unveiled.

The sources state that Nitin Gadkari, a senior BJP leader and Union Minister, is most likely to run for office from Nagpur a third time. The BJP's national secretary, Pankaja Munde, who is the daughter of the late Gopinath Munde, a party stalwart, might also be granted a poll pass.

According to sources, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule would run from the Wardha seat. The party may also select roughly ten new candidates for the Maharashtra Lok Sabha election.

Before the election dates are declared, 345 candidates will have been named, with the BJP expected to disclose the second list containing 150 names by the weekend. This suggests that the BJP leadership intends to select candidates ahead of time in order to maximize campaign time.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the leader of the Congress party, is reportedly considering running for office from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Her mother, Sonia Gandhi, a veteran of the party, left the seat vacant when she transferred to the Rajya Sabha.

In Amethi, another high-profile Congress seat, the party might choose to replicate Rahul Gandhi. Union Minister Smriti Irani, the BJP's Amethi candidate who defeated Mr. Gandhi in the 2019 election, has been retained.

A list of candidates has not yet been released by the main Opposition Congress. To finalize the party's choices for the Lok Sabha elections, the central election committee of the party is anticipated to meet today. According to party insiders, the Congress will release a list shortly, allowing candidates to launch their campaigns.
