New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has expressed her outrage over former Punjab MP Simranjit Singh Mann’s recent comments that she claims trivialize the issue of rape. In a strongly-worded social media post, Ranaut condemned Mann for comparing rape to riding a bicycle. "It seems this country will never stop trivializing rape," Ranaut stated. "Today, this senior politician compared getting raped to riding a bicycle."

Ranaut, who represents Mandi, criticized the patriarchal mindset that allows such comments to be made, even about high-profile figures like herself. "No wonder rapes and violence against women are so deeply rooted in the psyche of this patriarchal nation that it is casually used to tease or mock a woman," she added.

Controversy over the situation

The controversy erupted when Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann, 79, made objectionable remarks about Ranaut's previous comments. During a party event in Karnal, Mann suggested that Ranaut explain how rape occurs, citing her supposed experience. His comments came in response to Ranaut's criticism of the farmers' protest against the repealed agricultural laws, where she had alleged incidents of violence and conspiracy involving foreign powers.

Following the backlash, the BJP swiftly distanced itself from Ranaut's statements, directing her to avoid such controversial remarks in the future. "The Bharatiya Janata Party has instructed Kangana Ranaut to refrain from making similar statements going forward," a party spokesperson confirmed.
