The opposition frequently accuses the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of acting as a "washing machine" for politics, suggesting that any corruption associated with those who join the party gets erased. This sentiment is echoed by various opposition parties and is exemplified by a recent event in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Here, eight Congress councillors defected to the BJP, and in a unique attempt to cleanse their alleged corruption, the party resorted to a ritual involving a mixture of Ganga water and cow urine.

A video that has surfaced on social media shows that BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya, representing the Hawa Mahal assembly constituency, led the ceremony by sprinkling the concoction on the councillors. The ritual included the symbolic act of the councillors drinking the mixture, which was splashed on their faces and lips.

Acharya, who is serving as an MLA for the first time and is well-known in the community as the Mahant of Hathoj Dham temple, proclaimed, “We have purified the Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage (JMCH) with Ganga water, and all impurities have been removed. After performing Puja-Archana with Vedic mantras, the new mayor has taken charge on this auspicious Navami date. Now, there will be an atmosphere of purity in the Municipal Corporation.”

New leadership takes charge

Kusum Yadav, the newly appointed mayor, assumed her role with the recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa and chants of “Jai Shri Ram.” Addressing the Congress councillors who switched allegiance to the BJP, Acharya stated, “They have all consumed Gangajal and cow urine. The recitation of Vedic mantras has now reached their ears, and they have become complete Sanatanis.”

This event followed the removal of former JMCH Mayor Munesh Gurjar due to allegations of corruption, leading to the nomination of Kusum Yadav as his successor. Yadav garnered support from seven Congress councillors and one independent councillor, all of whom officially joined the BJP on September 25. Prior to her taking office, on September 26, Acharya conducted a purification ritual at the JMCH campus, involving both councillors and officials.
