Two prominent veteran leaders of BJP, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, who played pivotal roles in the Ram temple movement, won't be attending the consecration ceremony on January 24, 2024. The Ram temple trust chief has cited their age and health as the reasons for their absence.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Champat Rai, the general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, said Advani (96) and Joshi, who will turn 90 next month, were requested not to attend the consecration of the Ram Temple on January 24, next year, on grounds of age and health.

Advani and Joshi led the Ram Temple movement, which resulted in a historic decision on November 9, 2019, by a five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, resolving the decades-long title dispute matter in favour of the Hindus.

The top court ruled that the contested land must be transferred to a trust so that the Ram Janmabhoomi temple can be constructed.

The Muslim side will also receive five acres of land as compensation from the court so that they can construct a mosque, court then said.

Rai further informed that all preparations for the consecration ceremony, which is to be headlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be completed by January 15, next year.

"The puja for Pran Pratishtha will begin on January 16 and will continue till January 22, 2024," the general secretary of the temple trust, informed.
