Former Union Minister Criticizes Handcuffed Deportation of Illegal Indian Immigrants, Calling it a "Blot on Humanity". Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Uma Bharti has strongly criticized the United States government's recent deportation of illegal Indian immigrants, particularly the manner in which they were allegedly transported. Bharti described the act of sending the immigrants back to India in handcuffs and shackles as "extremely shameful and a blot on humanity".

Deportation Details

Two Flights, Hundreds of Deportees. A US military aircraft carrying 104 illegal Indian immigrants landed in Amritsar on February 5, marking the first such deportation under the Donald Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigration. A second plane, carrying 119 more deportees, was expected to arrive in Amritsar on February 15.

Allegations of Inhumane Treatment

Deportees Reportedly Handcuffed and Shackled. Some of the deportees have claimed that they were handcuffed and shackled throughout the duration of the flight and were only unshackled upon arrival in Amritsar. Bharti has expressed her outrage over these reports, calling the treatment "cruel and inhuman".

Bharti's Critique

Drawing Parallels to Historical Treatment of Minorities. In a post on X, Bharti stated that the US government has repeatedly displayed "cruel and violent attitude towards Red Indians and people of African origin living there". She acknowledged that entering a country illegally is a crime, but she argued that the manner of deportation constitutes a "great sin".

Political Reactions

Focus on Deportation Tactics Amid Delhi Elections. Bharti's statement comes amid heightened political activity in India, including the upcoming Delhi elections. While Bharti is a member of the BJP, her criticism of the US deportation tactics adds another layer to the ongoing discussions about immigration policies and human rights.
