The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has publicly distanced itself from Maharashtra MLA Nitesh Rane’s recent inflammatory comments targeting the Muslim community. Rane had sparked controversy by threatening to attack Muslims within their mosques if harm came to Hindu seer Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj. The seer himself had made headlines recently for his derogatory remarks against Islam and Prophet Muhammad, which has been criticized on social media.

BJP’s Official Response

According to India Today, BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha firmly stated that Rane’s remarks have no place in public discourse and should never be voiced by any politician. “Two FIRs have been filed, and it's only a matter of time before the law takes its course,” Sinha emphasized, reflecting the party's stance on the legal repercussions Rane may face.

However, while condemning Rane's comments, Sinha also accused the Congress party of what he termed “obnoxious selectivity” in their response to crimes against the Hindu community. He questioned whether Congress had taken any action against its own members, such as Telangana MLA Rashed Khan, who had allegedly issued bounties on the head of Wasim Rizvi following his conversion to Hinduism in 2021. Sinha also mentioned Maulana Tauqeer Raza, who reportedly made inflammatory statements against Hindus during the Uttarakhand assembly election campaign, accusing Congress of forming an alliance with him soon after.

Chun Chun Kar Maarenge: Controversial Speech by Nitish Rane

Nitesh Rane made his contentious remarks during a public meeting in support of Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district. In a video that quickly went viral, Rane is heard saying, “We will enter your mosques and hit you one by one. Keep this in mind.” This prompted immediate legal action, with two FIRs being registered against him at Shrirampur and Topkhana police stations, both located about 260km from Mumbai. The charges include criminal intimidation, intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, and hurting religious sentiments.

Rane, the son of former Union minister Narayan Rane, is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year, he was booked for making hate speeches in various parts of Mumbai, including Malvani, Mankhurd, and Ghatkopar. Reacting to his son’s latest statements, Narayan Rane urged against generalizing the entire Muslim community, stating, "There is no need to drag any religion, only those who are guilty of wrongdoing. Not all Muslims are guilty of this, so don't drag the entire community. I have reprimanded him."
