New Delhi: BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda has been appointed the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, replacing Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who has now become a member of the 18th Lok Sabha from the North Mumbai constituency. Earlier this year, in February, Nadda was among the 41 candidates elected unopposed to the upper house. Besides Nadda, the BJP has re-nominated only three members – Ashwini Vaishnaw, L Murugan, and party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi – for another term in the recent Rajya Sabha elections.

Background of JP Nadda

JP Nadda's political career commenced in 1975 during his involvement in the Bihar Movement. He subsequently joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and held the position of secretary at Patna University in 1977. From 1977 to 1979, he actively participated in student politics in Ranchi. Nadda was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Himachal Pradesh in 2012 and joined the BJP's parliamentary board in 2014. Additionally, he served as an MLA in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur assembly for three terms spanning from 1993 to 2007.
