LoP Rahul Gandhi and BJP leader RP Singh (ANI)
In a heated response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks made in Virginia, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has escalated its criticism, challenging Gandhi to repeat his statements on Indian soil. The BJP has threatened legal action if Gandhi continues to make disparaging remarks about the Sikh community.
On Tuesday, BJP leader RP Singh condemned Gandhi's comments, highlighting a dark chapter in India's history. "3000 Sikhs were massacred in Delhi; their turbans were taken off, their hair was chopped off and beard was shaved... He (Rahul Gandhi) doesn't say that this happened when they (Congress) were in power," Singh stated. He urged Gandhi to make similar statements in India, asserting that such remarks would lead to a legal battle.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also weighed in, drawing a comparison to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Leader of Opposition, he never attempted to tarnish the country's image abroad," Chouhan said. He criticized Gandhi for allegedly trying to undermine India's reputation due to his anti-BJP sentiments and for failing to unite with the nation and its people.

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal added that Gandhi’s comments were driven by jealousy over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's growing popularity. "Only those involved in corruption and scams get scared; PM Modi’s rising popularity is the real issue for Rahul Gandhi. His narrative of fear is misleading and inappropriate for a Leader of Opposition," Khandelwal asserted.
Pradeep Bhandari, BJP national spokesperson, accused the Congress party of being fearful and exposed. "The Congress party is scared of their own propaganda being uncovered. They have become a party that pits people against each other and harms India for political gain," Bhandari claimed.
In contrast, TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha supported Gandhi’s comments on unemployment during his US visit. "Whether Rahul Gandhi makes statements or conducts the Bharat Jodo Yatra, BJP always has issues with him. As an observer, I believe his statements are accurate," Sinha said.
During his visit to the US, Rahul Gandhi discussed issues facing the Sikh community and expressed concerns about religious freedoms in India. He questioned whether Sikhs would be allowed to practice their religion freely, including wearing turbans and visiting Gurdwaras.
Gandhi also criticized the BJP's efforts to instill fear, asserting that the fear of Prime Minister Modi has dissipated following the 2024 elections. "The fear created by various agencies and media vanished instantly. The image of PM Modi as a formidable leader is now a thing of the past," Gandhi stated.
