BJP, allies secure 9 of 11 seats in Maharashtra MLC elections amid cross-voting

New Delhi: The Mahayuti Alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), secured victory in the Maharashtra Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections. The alliance won nine out of eleven seats. This is a major political success due to the upcoming Assembly elections.

All five candidates fielded by the BJP, along with two each from Shiv Sena and NCP, emerged victorious. The winners include BJP's Pankaja Munde, Yogesh Tilekar, Parinay Phuke, Amit Gorkhe, and Sadabhau Khot. From Ajit Pawar's NCP, Rajesh Vitekar and Shivajrao Garje won, while Krupal Tumane and Bhavana Gawali won from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena.

Cross-voting in alliances

Mahayuti leaders celebrate

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed his gratitude. He said, "Five MLAs supported us, I thank them. When there are elections, allegations are made but I do not think about it... Mahayuti should get such success in the Vidhan Sabha as well."

Strong political statement

The BJP fielded five candidates: Pankaja Munde, Yogesh Tilekar, Parinay Phuke, Amit Gorkhe, and Sadabhau Khot. Their allies, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar's NCP fielded two candidates each. Shiv Sena's candidates were Krupal Tumane and Bhavana Gawali, while the NCP's hopes rested on Rajesh Vitekar and Shivajrao Garje.

The voting took place between 9 AM and 4 PM, and the results were declared by the evening. There were 12 candidates competing for 11 seats in the upper house of the state legislature. The electoral college consisted of 274 current members of the legislative assembly.
