Update (June 15, 3:13 pm): According to a senior state government official on Thursday, Cyclone Biparjoy is anticipated to make landfall on the Gujarat coast today between 9 and 10 pm as the wind speed has decreased. Cyclone warning has been issued.

Taking it to Twitter, IMD mentioned, “Cyclone Warning for Saurashtra & Kutch Coasts: RED MESSAGE.VSCS BIPARJOY at 1330IST today near lat 22.8N and lon 67.3E about 120km WSW of Jakhau Port (Gujarat),170km WNW of Devbhumi Dwarka.Landfall process will commence near Jakhau Port from today evening,continue till midnight.”


Update (June 15, 2:07 pm): According to the official statement, arrangements of food, water and medical services has been made for the evacuated people.


Around 74,000 residents of vulnerable areas have been evacuated, as part of precautionary measures taken against cyclone Biparjoy, which is less than 200 kilometres off the Gujarat coast and is expected to make landfall on Thursday evening accompanied by torrential rain and a storm surge, according to authorities.

The government has relocated residents from roughly 120 villages in the Kutch region that were between 0 and 10 kilometres from the coast. The “very severe cyclonic storm” Biparjoy, with winds up to 150 kph, is likely to make landfall close to Jakhau port, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Apart from this, heavy rain and strong winds in the cyclone affected Jamnagar as landfall is expected along the Gujarat coast today evening.
