New Delhi: Union Minister Chirag Paswan has found himself in a sticky situation after his vehicle was fined for allegedly overspeeding at a toll plaza in Bihar, according to reports. The incident took place on August 24 while Paswan was traveling from Patna to Hajipur. As per reports, the minister's vehicle was detected speeding by a camera at a toll plaza, which triggered the issuance of a traffic challan. The automated system, installed by the Bihar government, immediately sent a confirmation message regarding the fine to Chirag Paswan’s registered mobile number. The minister is now required to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 for the violation.

E-Detection system in Bihar

The Bihar government has rolled out an e-detection system at all toll plazas across the state to curb traffic violations. The system, which was announced in April by Transport Secretary Sanjay Agarwal, is designed to automatically issue challans for offenses such as overspeeding, lack of seat belts, and non-compliance with fitness, pollution, and insurance regulations.

Advanced surveillance technology

High-resolution CCTV cameras have been strategically placed at each toll plaza to monitor and record traffic activity. Once a violation is detected, the system generates a challan and sends a notification to the registered mobile number of the vehicle owner.

The e-detection system has been connected to all 32 toll plazas in Bihar, significantly enhancing the state's ability to enforce traffic regulations. Official data reveals that over 12,000 challans have been issued through this system in the past 20 days alone, with many VIPs, including Union Minister Chirag Paswan, being among those fined.
