Bihar Political Stir: A storm is brewing in Bihar's political landscape as rumours circulate about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar thinking of a rupture with Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), potentially leading to the dissolution of the state assembly. The anticipation is that Kumar might realign with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), spearheaded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), causing collateral damage to the existing grand alliance with the Congress and the emerging INDIA bloc.

While the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) officially asserts the stability of the alliance, signs of strain are evident in its relationship with the RJD. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad, conducted separate meetings with their parties to deliberate on the way forward. Meanwhile, state BJP leaders convened in Delhi for discussions with JP Nadda and Amit Shah.
During the centenary celebrations of socialist Janata leader Karpoori Thakur, Chief Minister Kumar made remarks against dynastic politics, a statement widely perceived as directed towards the RJD. The subsequent day saw a retort from Lalu Prasad's daughter, Rohini Acharya, implying that those claiming to be socialist change their ideologies, hinting at Kumar's political shifts.
The political manoeuvreings of Nitish Kumar, who was part of the NDA till 2013, subsequently aligned with the RJD and Congress until 2017, rejoined the NDA till 2022, and then rekindled ties with the RJD and Congress, have raised questions about the stability of Bihar's political landscape. While RJD MP Manoj Jha downplayed media speculation, JD(U) general secretary KC Tyagi dismissed Rohini's comments, citing traditional norms.

Speculation abounds regarding Kumar's dissatisfaction with JD(U) leader Lallan Singh's proximity to Lalu Prasad. There are murmurs of unease over the evolving dynamics of the INDIA bloc, a coalition initiated by Kumar, where he perceives a diminishing role for himself. The Bihar CM's recent comment against dynastic politics may have served as a catalyst, but the underlying trigger remains uncertain.
Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, formerly close to Nitish Kumar, commended the CM for criticising dynastic alliances, emphasizing Kumar's unpredictable nature. The BJP central leadership is keenly monitoring Bihar's political landscape, recognising the disintegration of the opposition alliance. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor posits Kumar's adaptable strategy: opposing dynastic politics with the BJP and decrying communalism with the RJD.

Former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi believes Lalu Prasad's primary goal is to install Tejashwi Yadav as CM, a prospect Nitish Kumar vehemently opposes. As Bihar stands at the cusp of change, all eyes are on January 31, with the potential for a paradigm shift in the state's political dynamics.
