Amid the ongoing political conundrum in the state, it is being speculated that Bihar's chief minister Nitish Kumar might leave the Mahagathbandhan alliance and join the BJP-led NDA. Meanwhile, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member of Parliament and party supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter said that nothing has been said so far and that she does not have an idea of the political situation of Bihar.

Speaking to the media she said, "I have no idea right now…whatever is going on in the news that is the only thing, other than that nobody has said anything…Whenever RJD comes to power, we have worked for the people of Bihar and we will keep working for them in the future also."

In terms of MLAs, RJD is the largest party in the state with 79 MLAs. It is an ally in the mega alliance along with JD(U), Congress, and three Left parties of the state.

What is going on in Bihar politics?

The political turmoil suggests Nitish Kumar's JD(U) may drop out of the Mahagathbandhan and rejoin the BJP-led NDA alliance. Reportedly, Bihar's CM is unhappy with the current alliance. Earlier on Thursday, the rumors began when Lalu Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya said that Kumar is “changing his ideology as the winds change its direction” in an X post. After her post on the microblogging platform, the speculations intensified as both RJD and JD(U) held independent meetings with its MLAs to discuss the developments regarding the party's top leadership in the state. It is worth noting that, Nitish Kumar has been known of for switching partners to maintain his chief ministerial chair since 2017.

RJD's Tejashwi leads meeting of top party leader

Earlier in the evening, the deputy chief minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav convened a meeting of top RJD leaders at Lalu Yadav's residence in Patana. In the meeting, he concluded that Nitish is 'respectable' but there are several other factors that are not under his control.

The news agency ANI quoted that, "CM Nitish Kumar was and is respectable. Many things are not under his control. RJD's allies in the 'Mahagathbandhan' always respected the CM…Whatever remained undone in two decades, we managed to get it done within a short time- be it jobs, caste census, increasing reservation, etc. 'Bihar mein abhi khel hona baki hain' (The game is yet to begin in Bihar)."
