'Palayan Roko, Naukri Do' padyatra: Congress workers clash with Bihar police; Kanhaiya Kumar detained

In a big flashpoint of tensions in Bihar, police fought Congress workers during its Palayan Roko, Naukri Do padyatra undertaken by Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday. The protest was to condemn unemployment and water shortages in the state. But when the demonstrators attempted to march to the chief minister's house, security forces stepped in, employing water cannons and lathi charge to push them away.

Bihar: In a big flashpoint of tensions in Bihar, police fought Congress workers during its Palayan Roko, Naukri Do padyatra undertaken by Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday. The protest was to condemn unemployment and water shortages in the state. Kumar criticized the high-handedness of the state government

Before being driven away in a police van, Kumar criticized the high-handedness of the state government."We are not asking for lathicharge or water cannons. We need water to flow through our pipes.""We don't want water to be sprayed on us but desire that Bihar's Nal Jal Yojana function well and people receive water at home. When the government fails to give water in taps then it employs water cannon on students and youths," he said.

'Palayan Roko, Naukri Do' padyatra to continue

Kumar stated that the Palayan Roko, Naukri Do padyatra had been able to place the topic of migration and unemployment at the focal point of the politics of Bihar.

He promised that the yatra would not be withdrawn until steps are taken. He also came to the defense of the Congress party in the face of criticism levelled against it. He said that it cannot be faulted as it is not in power. He instead faulted CM Nitish Kumar who has been in power in Bihar for the past 20 years
