Ahead of the political conundrum in Bihar, a group of Congress MLAs from Bihar arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday. The MLAs reached out ostensibly to extend greetings to the newly elected Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy. The visit comes ahead of a crucial trust vote scheduled for February 12 in Bihar, initiated by the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

According to reports within the Telangana Congress, the Bihar Congress MLAs are expected to stay in Hyderabad until February 11. The purpose of their visit, as reported by PTI, is to greet Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who assumed office after the Congress's triumph in the December 2023 Assembly elections in Telangana.

'We do not need them', says Bihar Deputy CM

Responding to the Congress MLAs' visit, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary said that the BJP-JD(U) government in Bihar has the support of 128 MLAs and does not require the backing of the Congress to retain power.

He commented, "It is good that they have been taken to Hyderabad. The MLAs will tour and see the city of Nawabs (Hyderabad). We have 128 MLAs so we do not need them. We do not need the support of Congress and RJD. We need public support. The NDA government was formed in 2020 on the strength of the people," as quoted by news agency ANI.

Why has Congress MLAs reached to Hyderabad?

However, Bihar Congress MLA Siddharth Saurav explained that he couldn't join the visit to Hyderabad due to prior commitments in his constituency. Saurav clarified, "I have not gone to Hyderabad as there is a lot of work going on in the constituency. I was asked to go with them (MLAs gone to Hyderabad) but I refused to go due to the work here in the constituency."

Furthermore, he added, "They have gone there as Congress has formed a new government in Telangana. Definitely, I will go if I am called for any party event. We will surely participate if there is any party event," as reported by news agency ANI.

Nitish Kumar holds BJP's hand

In a dramatic political turn, Nitish Kumar, known for his frequent political shifts, recently parted ways with the ruling 'Mahagathbandhan' (grand alliance) in Bihar and the larger Opposition alliance at the Centre. The Chief Minister aligned his political fortunes once again with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). As the trust vote looms in Bihar, the visit of Congress MLAs to Hyderabad adds a layer of intrigue to the evolving political landscape.
