Bihar Speaker meets Lalu Yadav: Amid political turmoil following the resignation of Rajiv Ranjan Singh as JD(U) chief, Bihar Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary made a notable visit to Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav's residence on Sunday.
Accompanying the Vidhan Sabha Speaker was Environment Minister Tej Pratap, adding significance to the meeting amid the evolving political landscape in Bihar.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh's resignation as the party chief and the subsequent takeover by Nitish Kumar have stirred speculations about the future moves in Bihar's political arena. The state is abuzz with discussions over Nitish Kumar's potential strategies.
In a recent development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was unanimously re-elected as the president of JD(U) during a meeting of the party's national executive in Delhi. This leadership shift occurred after Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, stepped down from the post. Notably, it is not the first time Nitish Kumar has assumed the role of the party president, having previously done so in 2016.
Nitish Kumar's political journey has seen shifts in alliances and strategies. In 2013, he parted ways with the NDA after a 17-year alliance, citing differences over Narendra Modi's candidacy for BJP's prime ministerial position. In 2017, Kumar formed a grand alliance with RJD and Congress, returning as the chief minister in 2015. However, he later broke ties with the grand alliance in 2017, accusing the RJD of corruption.
In 2022, Nitish Kumar severed ties with the BJP once again, citing conspiracy and attempts to influence JD(U) MLAs against him. Rajiv Ranjan Singh's resignation has been a significant development, triggering discussions about the political landscape in Bihar.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh dismissed media reports speculating about his resignation being linked to an alleged effort to make RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister of Bihar. He asserted that his decision was voluntary and influenced by the demands of work related to his constituency. Singh deemed the reports untrue and misleading, emphasising his longstanding association with Nitish Kumar.
Sushil Modi remarked on the ongoing political developments, describing it as the beginning of a game within JD(U). He asserted that Lalan Singh's exit was a strategic move by Nitish Kumar to counter potential alliances and upheavals within the party. Modi ruled out the possibility of Nitish Kumar returning to the NDA, asserting that there was no turning back for him.
As Bihar navigates through this political flux, the meetings and resignations continue to shape the future course of the state's political landscape.
