A gruesome incident of brutality has been reported from Motihari district, where a youth was subjected to inhuman treatment after he refused to sell liquor. The gory incident, which occurred in the Sangrampur police station area's Koirgawa Bindtoli village, has come to light in a viral clip on social media. The victim can be seen in the clip pleading for mercy as he was brutally beaten up with sticks after being stripped.

Although Live Hindustan does not confirm the authenticity of the video, an FIR has been filed regarding the incident. The victim, Sandeep Kumar, had filed a complaint against seven persons, narrating the ghastly attack that took place on February 13.

Victim's ordeal: Stripped, beaten, and tied

As per the complaint, Sandeep was just sitting on his doorstep when Upendra Mukhiya, Jitendra Mukhiya, Mukesh Mukhiya, Neeraj Mukhiya, Chathu Mukhiya, Sonelal Mukhiya, and Brijesh Mukhiya from the village of Hasuaha along with other men forcibly took him away. The accused insisted he take 100 liters of local liquor to Jagapakar. He didn't comply with their demands and they naked-hung him along with beating him brutally. The accused tied him up and dropped him in the nearby field late at night.

On hearing his pleas for assistance, people in the area came running and took him to the hospital. The in-charge of the Sangrampur police station, Dheeraj Kumar Singh, has confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and an investigation is being conducted.

Liquor mafia's stronghold: A history of violence

Koirgawa and Rehua Chawar regions are infamous for illegal liquor businesses. Police raids notwithstanding, liquor mafias operate with complete impunity. In a gruesome indication of their brutality, liquor smugglers had killed an Indian Air Force officer in the same area earlier.

Air Force personnel Alok Tiwari was brutally killed with a sharp weapon on January 7, 2023, in Dariyapur Tiwari Tola for resisting liquor smuggling. Even though the culprits were arrested by the police, the fear of law appears to be missing among the liquor mafias, as such acts continue.
