BJP MP Maneka Gandhi took a dig at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), calling them the biggest cheat in the country as they sell cows from their gaushalas (cowsheds) to butchers. Now the popular temple body – ISKCON – has responded to the same. Minutes back, the temple body tweeted: Response to the unsubstantiated and false statements of Smt Maneka Gandhi.ISKCON has been at the forefront of cow and bull protection and care not just in India but globally. The cows and bulls are served for their life not sold to butchers as alleged. pic.twitter.com/GRLAe5B2n6— Yudhistir Govinda Das (@yudhistirGD) September 26, 2023 In a series of tweets further, the temple representative tried explaining in detail that what Gandhi is claiming, is not right. he stated, “The cows and the bulls are taken care of for their entire natural life in our goshalas. Depending on the place, some have mechanism & volunteers to help make the gobar into manure, others into panchagavya items like dhoop, diya, jivamrut, cakes for havan, etc. Where it is feasible some also have biogas plant. Sustainability is definitely a challenge for all the goshalas in the country due to the disappearance of grazing land (gochar bhumi) which was easily available for all the villagers to use in the past & the raising cost of green & dry fodder. The element of care & seva of the volunteers & staff helps over come any of these challenges.”BJP MP Maneka Gandhi slams ISKCONManeka Gandhi, a former union minister, is also an animal rights activist and is vocal on social media over issues of animal welfare. In a video message, she said, “ISKCON is the biggest cheat in the country,” she is heard saying in a video that has gone viral. They maintain gaushalas and get benefits from the government, including vast lands.”Heres what BJP MP Maneka Gandhi has to say on #ISKCON and Cow Slaughter. pic.twitter.com/MIC277YByF— Mohammed Zubair (@zoo_bear) September 26, 2023Recalling her recent visit to one of the cowsheds, she said, “I just visited their Anantpur Gaushala. There was no dry cow in the entire dairy. Not a single calf was there. It means all were sold.”ISKCON is selling all its cows to butchers“ISKCON is selling all its cows to the butchers. No one else does this as much as they do. And they go on and sing Hare Ram Hare Krishna on the roads. Then they say their entire life is dependent on milk. Probably, no one has sold as many cattle to the butchers as they did,” she is heard saying in the video.Notably, the ISKCON, associated with the Hare Krishna movement, maintains hundreds of temples across the world and has thousands of devotees from abroad.
