The case sparked controversy when the 17-year-old accused was granted bail within a few hours of mowing down two engineers in Maharashtra’s Pune on May 19. The deceased, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, were both IT professionals and residents of Madhya Pradesh. While granting bail for the first time to the accused, the son of real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) asked him to write a 300-word essay as the condition of bail, which initiated outrage among people.
Subsequently, after request review, the Juvenile Justice Board remanded the teen to the observation home. The parents of the accused are already in the police custody.
Police also confirmed the CCTV footage of the teenager drinking at the pub before the accident, adding that the teen was fully aware of his actions and parents had exposed him to danger.
While passing the order the court said that the juvenile is currently undergoing the care of a psychologist and the practice will be continued.
