At least 223 employees have been removed from their posts with immediate effect on the order of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. According to the sources, the action from LG has come after the department found that staffers in the Department of Women and Child Development have been appointed on contract without the government’s permission, which is against the rules.

The letter further states that the appointment of 223 staffers was done when no posts were existing at the time of vacancies. It further says that the chairperson, in various meetings of the Commission, was advised repeatedly by the Member Secretary to get the approval of the Finance Department.

DCW has violated the statutory provisions of DCW Act, 1994

The order further says DCW has violated the statutory provisions and various standing instructions of the Department of Finance & Planning Department, GNCTD by creating 223 posts and engaging staff without following due procedure.

It also alleges that no study was conducted to assess whether there is any requirement for additional staff or not. The department did not even check the eligibility criteria and did not even ask for expenditures.

It is worth noting that this move by LG Saxena has come after the Delhi High Court at the beginning of this year stayed the trial court’s proceedings against Maliwal in the Delhi Police Anti-Corruption Branch’s case concerning graft allegations for appointing persons acquainted with her or those associated with the AAP between July 2015 and August 2016.
