New Delhi: In a disturbing revelation, a man has been arrested by Bhubaneswar police for marrying 15 women in succession and extorting money from them through blackmail. This case comes on the heels of another recent arrest in Odisha involving a fake doctor accused of similar crimes.

The accused, who has been identified as a manipulative fraudster, targeted primarily middle-aged women seeking second marriages. His scheme involved marrying these women, filming intimate moments without their consent, and using these videos to blackmail them for money. The fraudulent activities were brought to light when one of his victims, distressed and seeking justice, approached the police.

Victim’s harrowing experience

According to the victim’s account, she was divorced and looking for a new partner when she encountered the accused on a matrimonial site. He presented himself as a high-ranking officer and quickly built a rapport with her. Their relationship progressed to marriage, but the honeymoon phase was short-lived.

A few days after the marriage, the accused began physically and emotionally abusing the victim. He also secretly recorded their wedding night and other private moments. When the victim attempted to leave and return to her parents’ home, the accused used the footage as leverage, threatening to expose it unless she paid him money. Initially, she complied, but when the demands continued, she sought help from the authorities.

Investigation and ongoing probe

Following the victim’s complaint, the Crime Branch launched a comprehensive investigation. The probe revealed that the accused had perpetrated similar frauds with 15 different women. The man has since been apprehended and is currently under interrogation.

Public appeal

Authorities urge anyone experiencing similar issues to come forward and report them. The Bhubaneswar police have assured that they are taking stringent measures to address such crimes and support victims through the legal process.
