Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi experienced a warm reception as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Meghalaya from Assam. Thousands gathered to welcome him as he addressed the crowd, vehemently criticizing the RSS and BJP for undermining India's constitutional and institutional framework.

The Attack on the Idea of India

Rahul Gandhi voiced concern over the RSS and BJP's attempts to stifle the constitutional and institutional structure of India. He emphasized that the idea of India, as envisioned in the constitution, was under attack. Gandhi expressed alarm at the centralization of power, noting that states like Meghalaya were seemingly ruled from Delhi.

Constitutional Equality Among States

According to Gandhi, the constitution upholds the principle that India is a union of states, with each state being equal, regardless of its size. He stressed the need to treat every state with equality and dignity, condemning any attempt to differentiate between the children of Meghalaya and those of other states.

Political Irony

Taking a dig at the Union Home Minister, Gandhi highlighted the irony of labeling the Meghalaya government as corrupt and then forming an alliance with the same government. He questioned the credibility of such political alignments, signaling the need for consistency and transparency.

Neglect in Manipur and Corruption Scandals

Rahul Gandhi criticized the Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur amid incidents of violence. He suggested that swift action could have been taken to curb the violence, raising suspicions about the government's indifference to the suffering in Manipur. The Congress leader also pointed out corruption scandals in Meghalaya, particularly in sectors like coal transport.

Sweet Pineapples and Economic Opportunities

Gandhi shared a personal anecdote about tasting exceptionally sweet pineapples in Meghalaya. He regretted the lack of infrastructure to export these high-quality pineapples globally. This narrative underscored his emphasis on economic development and opportunities in the region.

Promise to the People

Expressing gratitude to the large gathering, Gandhi assured the people of Meghalaya that he would be their representative and advocate in Delhi. He highlighted the Yatra's purpose, emphasizing the importance of building lasting relationships with people across the country.

As the program concluded, the crowd illuminated the venue with the lights of their mobile phones, creating a spectacular display. The waving of national flags added to the vibrant atmosphere, concluding the event on a memorable note.
