Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra: Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has just landed into legal trouble after the Assam Police filed a case against the yatra and its organizers KB Bjyu for allegedly violating the state government’s guidelines regarding the yatra route.
According to the police, the organizers deviated from the assigned directions and took a non-charted route as the yatra passed through Jorhat town on Thursday afternoon.
Amid the sudden change in the route, the organizers, including KB Byjiu and others allegedly incited the crowd to break traffic barricades and even assaulted the on-duty police officers.
When asked about the same, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia told PTI that the FIR was a ploy to create unnecessary obstacles before the yatra.
"There was no police manning the traffic diversion at the PWD point. The assigned route was too small and we had a huge gathering. So, we took a detour for just a few meters. Himanta Biswa Sarma is scared of the yatra's success on the first day (in Assam) and now wants to derail it," he told PTI.
Notably, the Assam stretch of the yatra is scheduled to persist until January 25, covering a distance of 833 km across 17 districts.
Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, kicked off from Manipur on January 14 and is set to conclude on March 20 in Mumbai. The overall plan envisions the yatra covering 6,713 km over the next 67 days. This yatra will also have 110 districts across 15 states.
