A heart-wrenching incident took place in Bengaluru as a 22-year-old engineering college student allegedly committed suicide after agents of a Chinese money lending app threatened to make public his intimate photographs on his mobile phone, for not repaying the loan, said the police.

The deceased was identified as Tejas, who hanged himself with a stole at their Jalahalli residence on Tuesday. He was a sixth-semester mechanical engineering student at a private college near Yelahanka. It is suspected that he had accumulated an outstanding amount of approximately Rs 46,000.

During the investigation, the family told the police, the victim had borrowed money from his friend, who was supposed to pay the EMI which he did not.

Allegedly, the loan recovery agents of the application had reached his house and threatened him. They were even making threat calls.

Suicide note by Tejas

The deceased, Tejas left behind a note explaining that his decision was driven by his inability to repay the loans. “I am sorry mom and dad for whatever I did. I have no other choice than this. I am unable to pay other loans that are there in my name and this is my final decision. Good Bye,” he said in his note.

Three days ago his father Gopinath had sought time to clear the dues but the lenders did not budge.

On Tuesday evening, the app agents made repeated calls threatening Tejas following which he took the extreme step.
