Bengaluru Murder Case: Muktiranjan Roy, the primary accused in the brutal murder of Mahalakshmi, whose dismembered body was found in a refrigerator in Bengaluru, was found dead by suicide in Odisha's Bhadrak district. Authorities discovered his body hanging from a tree on Wednesday, along with a suicide note confessing to the heinous crime.

Suspect in murder of Bengaluru woman commits suicide

Muktiranjan Pratap Roy, 31, was the prime suspect in the chilling murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, whose body was found cut into 59 pieces and stored in a fridge in her home at Vinayaka Nagar, Bengaluru. His death has been confirmed by the Odisha police, who also recovered a suicide note from the scene. The note reportedly contains Roy's confession, linking him directly to the murder.

The murder came to light when Bengaluru police, acting on a tip-off, discovered Mahalakshmi's dismembered body last Saturday. The gruesome discovery shocked the city, and Roy, a former colleague of the victim, was quickly identified as the prime suspect. Police immediately launched a manhunt, which extended beyond state borders.

Body found hanging from a tree

On Wednesday morning, Roy’s body was discovered hanging from a tree near Bhuinpur village in Odisha's Bhadrak district. The local police, led by Shantunu Kumar Jena, officer-in-charge of Dhusuri police station, found the body around 8:15 am. Roy had allegedly returned to his village earlier that day before leaving again on a two-wheeler. His body was later sent for postmortem.

Sanjay Kumar, Odisha’s Additional Director General of Police, confirmed that a suicide note was found near Roy's body. The note, now a court document, reportedly contains Roy’s full confession to Mahalakshmi’s murder. The Bengaluru police are expected to formally request access to this key piece of evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.

What happened between the couple?

Muktiranjan Roy and Mahalakshmi had reportedly been in a relationship since 2023, having worked together at a mall in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. Mahalakshmi, a team leader at a costume store and separated from her husband, had close ties with Roy. As part of the investigation, Bengaluru police questioned several people, including Mahalakshmi’s husband and her colleagues. However, Roy’s sudden disappearance became the main lead, and special teams were deployed to trace his movements.

Shortly after fleeing Bengaluru, Roy reportedly called his brother and confessed to the murder, seeking advice. His brother alerted the authorities, leading the police to track Roy’s last known location to West Bengal, before he was found dead in Odisha.

Police investigation still underway

Bengaluru police are working closely with their counterparts in Odisha to gather more information about Roy’s motives and the circumstances surrounding Mahalakshmi’s murder. As the investigation progresses, authorities expect further details to emerge, providing a clearer picture of the events that led to the tragic crime.
