New Delhi: A college student was brutally attacked by a group of seniors for allegedly refusing to shave his beard in Bengaluru. The victim, a second-year BBA student at Krupanidhi Group of Institutions in Bellandur, was targeted by three seniors identified as Xavier, Vishnu, and Sarath. The incident occurred on Friday, leading the victims father to file a police complaint against the attackers.From when did it all startThe victim recounted that the harassment began in April when he entered the college. The seniors repeatedly demanded that he shave off his beard and frequently disrupted his activities. “As I did not listen to them, I was continuously targeted and ragged by them. They even came to my house and searched for me when I went to my native,” he told the media. The situation escalated when the accused, along with a group of people, attacked the victim after luring him to a nearby church.Attack leads to severe conditionOn Friday evening, the victim was called to meet one of the seniors at a church near the college. When he arrived with his roommate, he was confronted by a group of around ten people. The attackers forced him to shave his beard on the spot and assaulted him with various objects, leaving him severely injured. The student had to undergo surgery following the attack. The college management has vowed to take strict action against the perpetrators.Legal action and the role of policeThe Bengaluru police have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 126 (wrongful restraint), 189 (unlawful assembly), 190 (accountability of illegal assembly members), 191 (rioting), and 351 (criminal intimidation). An investigation is ongoing to bring the accused to justice.
