Bengaluru artist in legal trouble, after posting 'F*** the police' tattoo on Instagram story

New Delhi: In Bengaluru, Ritesh Aghariya, the CEO of Tattoo Sutra situated on Brigade Road, has become embroiled in legal turmoil following his decision to upload a tattoo bearing the phrase 'F*** the police' on Instagram. The contentious post quickly gained attention, sparking widespread condemnation and outrage across various social media platforms.

Prompt police intervention

The controversy caught the attention of Sub-Inspector Chethan SG, responsible for monitoring social media activities at Cubbon Park police station. Late one Tuesday evening, he came across the provocative image featuring the derogatory slogan prominently tattooed on an individual's chest. Recognizing the potential for public disorder, he swiftly escalated the matter within the police department.

Registration of complaint

Upon verification of the post, Sub-Inspector Chethan SG promptly filed a non-cognizable report, highlighting the upload as both abusive and disrespectful towards law enforcement authorities. Citing legal provisions under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Section 352, which addresses intentional insults aimed at provoking breaches of peace, the police initiated formal proceedings against Ritesh Aghariya.

Accused's explanation

During interrogation, Ritesh Aghariya admitted to posting the contentious photograph on Instagram Stories. He claimed it was inadvertently uploaded while reviewing older photos and clarified that the tattoo was requested by a foreign client. However, he was unable to provide specific details regarding the client or the circumstances under which the tattoo was commissioned.

Police advisory

Law enforcement authorities issued a stern warning in response to the incident, cautioning against the dissemination of inflammatory content on social media platforms. Emphasizing their commitment to maintaining public order and respect for institutions, the police reiterated their readiness to take stringent legal action against individuals found guilty of similar offenses in the future.
