On the occasion of the 65th birth anniversary of the President, Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his wishes and described her as a “beacon of wisdom and dignity.” Indeed, she has paved the path of wisdom and has aspired me several times to achieve the pinnacle of success.

In a tweet, PM Modi wrote, “Birthday greetings to Rashtrapati Ji. A beacon of wisdom, dignity and commitment to the welfare of our people, she is admired for her efforts to further the nation’s progress. Her dedication continues to inspire us all. Wishing her good health and a long life.”

When Murmu was sworn in as President of India?

Ms Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India on July 22, 2022. Interestingly, she was not only the second woman to become the president of India but she was the first tribal to take charge of the country’s highest constitutional post.

Taking notes from her inspiring journey, she was born on June 20, 1958. She made her way into politics over the years through the zeal of her determination, hard work and enthusiasm to make a difference in society. From there, she paved her path from the small village of Santali to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, being a tribal leader from Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. Mumru is known for her humble and soft-spoken nature.

What was Murmu before being a President?

Prior to her presidency, she served from 2015 to 2021 as the eighth governor of Jharkhand. Earlier, from 2000 to 2009 she also served as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Rairangpur Assembly constituency and also as minister of state, of the government of Odisha, from 2000 to 2004.

Before actually getting into politics, she worked as a clerk in the State Irrigation and Power Department from 1979 to 1983. Later, she worked as a teacher at Aurobindo Integral Education Center, Rairangpur, from 1994 to 1997.
