Popular television actress Pooja Banerjee, known for her roles in Kumkum Bhagya and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, recently found herself embroiled in controversy after being accused in a money laundering case. The allegations, tied to a Pakistani-owned betting website, Magicwin, which allegedly broadcasted Men's T20 World Cup matches illegally, also named actress Mallika Sherawat. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) reportedly summoned both actresses for questioning.
On January 2, Pooja took to Instagram to address the accusations. In a heartfelt post, she expressed disappointment over the false allegations and criticized media outlets for spreading unverified information. “I was recently falsely blamed for a money laundering case,” she wrote, sharing that her name and image were irresponsibly circulated without her consent or confirmation.
Pooja revealed that the accusations surfaced while she was vacationing in South Africa with her family. The unfounded claims left her loved ones distressed. “My family members were extremely distressed... We have decided to take the legal route to clear my standing,” she added.
In her post, Pooja called on the media to uphold integrity, urging outlets to verify information before publishing. “To all media people, you have real power to change the world... My request is that the faith of such people shouldn’t waver,” she emphasized. Pooja also reassured fans and well-wishers of her commitment to fighting the false allegations.
On the professional front, Pooja Banerjee remains one of Indian television's most celebrated actresses, with notable performances in Dil Hi Toh Hai and Chandrakanta. Despite the controversy, her fans continue to support her unwaveringly.
