The identities of the terrorists killed are not yet confirmed and are yet to be ascertained, said the police.
This infiltration bid and the subsequent encounter is a development to the ongoing face-off between the Indian army and the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). On Thursday, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module was unearthed in the Baramulla district with the arrest of two militant associates and the recovery of arms and ammunition from them.
According to a police spokesperson, the two militants have been identified as Zaid Hassan Malla, a resident of Mir Sahib Baramulla, and Mohammad Arif Channa, from Stadium Colony Baramulla.
“They were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities,” the spokesperson said.
On the other hand, the operation to neutralise terrorists who have taken positions in the forest area of the Anantnag district is underway. As the operation entered its fourth day on Saturday, security forces deployed drones to pinpoint the location of terrorists who had hidden themselves with the help of the hilly terrain of the forested region.
