Bail or jail? SC to give verdict on AAP leader Satyendar Jain's bail plea on Monday

Supreme Court The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgement on the bail plea of former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain in a money-laundering case probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mitthal will give its verdict. 


Satyendra Jain got interim bail 

Satyendra Jain was arrested by ED in May 2022 in the money laundering case. The court had granted him interim bail about nine months ago on medical grounds. However, the court had also imposed several restrictions on him like using pressure on the witnesses, complainants etc. related to this case, contacting them and the media directly or indirectly, taking part in political activities.

On May 26, 2023, the Supreme Court had released Satyendar Jain from judicial custody for six weeks on interim bail for treatment. Then this period kept increasing from time to time and now it has been more than nine months. It will be about ten months before the decision comes.
His arrest came a month after the probe agency attached assests worth Rs 4.81 crore linked to Jain's family in a disproportionate assets case. 

CBI accusation

The CBI has accused the former Delhi Minister of receiving protection money from several "high profile prisoners", including conmon Sukesh Chandrasekhar, in exchange for enabling them to live peacefully and confortably in jail.
