The relentless attacks by wolves in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district persist despite ongoing efforts by the Forest Department to capture the man-eating animals. In a fresh incident on Tuesday night, an 11-year-old girl was attacked by a wolf in the Mahasi region. The young victim has been admitted to the local government hospital for treatment, adding to the growing fear among residents.

50 Villages Under Siege from Man-Eating Wolves

Around 50 villages in Bahraich district have been living in fear due to a pack of six wolves that have been terrorising the region since mid-July. So far, the wolves have claimed the lives of eight people and injured over 20. As part of the ongoing ‘Operation Bhediya,’ the Forest Department successfully captured the fifth wolf on Tuesday morning (September 10). This capture follows the apprehension of the fourth wolf on August 29.

The pack’s remaining member, identified as the ‘Alpha’ wolf, is still at large. Forest officials, including Bahraich’s Divisional Forest Officer Ajit Pratap Singh, have confirmed that their team is working tirelessly to capture the final wolf.

'Operation Bhediya' in Full Swing

'Operation Bhediya' has been in effect in Bahraich’s Mahasi tehsil since March, with wolf attacks intensifying during the monsoon season. Since July 17, the pack of wolves has become increasingly aggressive, leading to the tragic deaths of seven people, six of whom were children, and approximately 30 injuries. The wolves' shifting locations have complicated the efforts to capture them, but authorities remain optimistic about the mission's success.
