Bahraich: Forest team captures killer wolves after 47-day hunt | WATCH

The ongoing efforts to capture the remaining two wolves are still in progress. According to a forest officer, the operation has concentrated on the sugarcane fields in Sisiya village, where drone surveillance had pinpointed the wolves' movements.

New Delhi: In a relentless 72-hour operation, 25 forest department teams, utilizing technology such as night-vision drones, nets and tranquilizer guns, which led to successfully captured one of the three killer wolves from sugarcane fields in Sisiya village, Bahraich. 

The ongoing efforts to capture the remaining two wolves are still in progress. According to a forest officer, the operation has concentrated on the sugarcane fields in Sisiya village, where drone surveillance had pinpointed the wolves' movements. "Our teams were carefully setting traps and tightening the human cordon around the targeted area," the officer noted.

Fourth wolf caught after deadly attacks

The wolf apprehended is a male and marks the fourth wolf captured by the forest department. It is believed that this particular wolf had been actively hunting for approximately two months. Over the past 47 days, these wolves have been responsible for the deaths of seven individuals, including six children, and have injured 22 others in Bahraich.

Chief Minister orders immediate assessment

The crisis prompted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to send Forest Minister Arun Kumar Saxena to the scene for an immediate assessment. A breakthrough in the search occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday when drones detected the wolves near the residence of Holi Yadav in the Sisiya village sugarcane fields. Notably, one of the wolves was observed limping due to an injured left foot. 

Forest team takes precautions in wolf operation

Divisional Forest Officer Akashdeep Badhawan emphasized the need for a careful strategy in the ongoing operation to capture the elusive wolves. He noted that the team is taking a cautious approach, acknowledging the wolves' intelligence and previous escapes. "We are approaching with caution this time. Wolves are clever, and they escaped twice before. A trap with a goat as bait has been set, and a tranquilizer team is on standby for a breakthrough."
