UP News: Violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district on Sunday during the immersion of Durga idols in the Mahasi area, resulting in significant unrest. A hospital and several shops were set ablaze on Monday following clashes between two communities. The local administration swiftly suspended internet services to curb the spread of further disturbances. One person was tragically killed, and several others sustained injuries during the conflict.

Administration takes swift action

Authorities acted promptly, taking 30 individuals into custody and registering a case. “At various places, Visarjan was stopped, which some mischievous elements took advantage of and tried to create a disturbance," an officer stated. The search is ongoing for the main accused, who remains at large. Security measures have been intensified to prevent further unrest.

Yogi Adityanath’s response

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that those responsible for disrupting peace would face strict consequences. In a post on X, he stated, "Those who spoil the atmosphere in Mahsi of Bahraich district will not be spared. Safety is guaranteed to all, but instructions have been given to identify the rioters and those whose negligence led to the incident and take strict action against them."

He also instructed officials to ensure the timely immersion of idols. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya urged citizens to remain calm, stating, "Any conspiracy to disturb the peace and harmony of Uttar Pradesh will not succeed." Samajwadi Party leader Fakhrul Hasan Chaand criticized the administration for failing to prevent the violence, labeling it a "failure of the police and intelligence."
