An IndiGo flight bound for Jammu airport was forced to enter the Pakistan airspace for some time due to adverse weather conditions, before being diverted to and safely landing in Amritsar on Sunday.

IndiGo, one of the largest airlines in Asia, confirmed that its Flight 6E 2124, travelling from Srinagar to Jammu, entered Pakistani airspace due to bad weather conditions.

The Civil Aviation Agencies in both countries were promptly altered before the flight entered the airspace in Pakistan, which was allowed to proceed. The air traffic controls from both countries in Jammu and Lahore coordinated to divert the flight safely to Amritsar, where it landed without issues.

“IndiGo 6e-2124 entered Pakistan airspace for a while due to bad weather and the flight was diverted to Amritsar,” IndiGo officials told ANI.

Second IndiGo flight to enter Pakistan airspace in June

This is the second incident of an IndiGo flight being forced to enter Pakistani airspace this month. On June 11, IndiGo flight 6E-645, travelling from Amritsar to Ahmedabad, entered Pakistan airspace due to bad weather, before safely landing in Ahmedabad.

The deviation of flights to foreign airspace in the event of bad weather is an “internationally allowed” practice that is not unusual, according to a senior Pakistani aviation official as told to Dawn.
