As everyone is gearing up for the consecration ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, the Sikh community will organize a three-day ‘Akhand Path’ in Gurudwara Brahm Kund Sahib in Ayodhya from January 19 to January 21 before the Pran Pratishtha event.
BJP national spokesperson RP Singh said, “Sikhs from various parts of the country will participate in the 'Akhand Path'. It will be held for the 'Pran Pratishtha' so that it goes off smoothly.”
"There is a great history of connection between Sikhs, Lord Ram, and Ayodhya, The key evidence on which even the Supreme Court relied was Guru Nanak Dev Ji's visit to the Ram temple in 1510. Nihangs also went inside the Ram temple in 1858 where they performed havan and wrote 'Ram' on the wall inside the premises," he added.
The ‘Akhand Path', a fundamental ritual in Sikhism, carries with it a profound spiritual significance. It involves an unbroken, continuous recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs.
This ritual can last over 48 hours, which is accomplished by a team of readers who ensure the words of divine scripture continue to resonate without interruption until the ceremony’s conclusion.
The Sikh community's Akhand Path celebrations demonstrate interfaith unity and honor the victory of spiritual beliefs that rise above religious divides.
Notably, Akhand Path' and various programs have been organized before the Supreme Court's landmark verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case in 2019.
"Before the Supreme Court verdict on Ram temple, we did organize 'Akhand Path' at the same Gurdwara in Ayodhya. Sikhs from Kanpur, Hyderabad, Amritsar, and other parts of the country participated and prayed for the construction of Ram temple. This 'Akhand Path' is for 'Pran Pratishtha', and the word 'Ram' has been used 2,533 times in the Guru Granth Sahib," he said.
