Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh: A shocking case of brutality has emerged from Ayodhya, often referred to as the city of Lord Ram, where a Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped and murdered. While the exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, police suspect sexual assault, and further clarity will come after the post-mortem report.
Following the horrific incident, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Ayodhya, Awadhesh Prasad, held a press conference to address the issue. However, during his address, Prasad became overwhelmed with emotions and broke down in tears. Amidst sobs, he declared that if justice is not served for the victim, he would resign from his position as a Member of Parliament.
Despite efforts by former minister Tej Narayan Pandey Pawan and SP district president Parasnath Yadav to console him, Prasad continued to weep, showcasing the deep distress caused by the incident.
The brutal crime has sparked a major political outcry, with the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government coming under fierce criticism from the opposition. Leaders such as Akhilesh Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi have taken to social media to demand strict action against both the culprits and the negligent police officers involved in handling the case. The incident has significantly escalated the political tension in the state.
According to media reports, the 22-year-old woman had gone missing, and her family filed a missing person complaint on Friday. Tragically, her lifeless body was discovered on Saturday morning in a severely disfigured state. The police have launched a thorough investigation and are awaiting the autopsy results to proceed with further legal action.
The victim’s family has alleged that she was gang-raped and brutally murdered. They claim that her eyes were gouged out and multiple bones were fractured, indicating extreme torture. According to their statements, the young woman had left home on Thursday night to attend a religious gathering but never returned. Her absence prompted the family to search for her and subsequently file a complaint with the police.
Authorities have assured a fair and thorough investigation, with the promise of strict punishment for those responsible for the heinous crime.
