New Delhi: Union Minister JP Nadda, while speaking on the Waqf Bill in the Rajya Sabha, supported it and called it in the interest of the country. He said that the opposition is trying to "push" the Waqf Bill brought by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Nadda made it clear that his support is for this bill and he hopes that the House will also approve it. He believed that this bill will bring transparency, accountability and efficiency in the improvement and management of Waqf properties.
Explaining the purpose of the bill, the Union Minister said that its main objective is to ensure improvement and better management of Waqf properties. He also said that the law from 2013 to 2025 harmed the Muslim community and benefited the land mafia. Nadda said that this bill will increase transparency and accountability, which will reduce corruption and the Waqf properties will be used properly.
Responding to the criticism of the bill, Nadda said that some people are trying to "destroy" Prime Minister Modi's vision, but he opposes it. He said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi is implementing democratic reforms. He also added that during the debate, some people are trying to spread sensation instead of arguments, which is against any healthy democratic process.
During this time in Rajya Sabha, Nadda also objected to challenging the decisions of the Waqf Board in the court. Citing a Supreme Court decision, he said that encroachment on a person's property is a violation of his right to life. Also, Nadda also clarified that under the new law, Waqf will not be allowed to occupy the properties of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), historical monuments, and tribal lands.
