Attack on doctor, medical dresser at Delhi hospital post nationwide strike

New Delhi: In a troubling incident at Doctor Hedgewar Hospital in Karkardooma, Delhi, a resident doctor and a medical dresser were allegedly attacked by a patient’s attendant late Saturday night. The assault occurred just days after the central government issued measures and an increase in security protocols for hospitals.

According to the reports, the incident unfolded around 1 am. When a patient with a forehead injury arrived at the hospital. The resident doctor, who remained anonymous, was administering care in the dressing room when the situation escalated. “After I finished the first stitch and was working on the second, the patient suddenly pushed me and began hurling abuses,” the doctor said. The patient’s son, who was waiting outside, entered the room, slapped the doctor, and continued to verbally abuse him.

Responding to the incident, United Doctors Front Association have asked for the prompt response from the authorities and asked for the immediate FIR registration and enhanced security for the healthcare workers.

The strike had been sparked by the horrific rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
