Atishi, new Chief Minister of Delhi (X/AAP)

In her first address after being selected as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi declared her commitment to ensuring that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal is re-elected to the top position in the upcoming Assembly elections. Atishi, a trusted AAP member, expressed her admiration for Kejriwal, referring to him as her "guru."

Addressing the media, Atishi made it clear that her primary objective would be to bring Kejriwal back to his post as the Chief Minister. She also lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of falsely implicating Kejriwal in various cases, which ultimately led to his six-month imprisonment. Her words were unwavering, as she declared, "Delhi has only one Chief Minister, and that is Arvind Kejriwal. The people of Delhi, the AAP MLAs, and I will work with one single aim – to see Arvind Kejriwal re-elected as Chief Minister."

Challenges ahead for Atishi

The newly appointed Delhi Chief Minister is set to face numerous challenges, particularly from the BJP. According to Delhi minister Gopal Rai, Atishi has been assigned two crucial tasks as she steps into this role. The first task is to continue working for the benefit of the people of Delhi, despite the hurdles created by the BJP. "Despite all the obstructions from the BJP, we should keep working together with the 2 crore people of Delhi," Rai emphasized.

The second major task, as outlined by Rai, is to combat the BJP’s alleged attempts to halt public welfare initiatives in the capital. BJP leaders, he said, aim to dismantle essential schemes such as free electricity and water services, as well as disrupt the functioning of government schools and hospitals. "Now as the new Chief Minister, Atishi ji will work to stop all the conspiracies of the BJP," Rai asserted.
