New Delhi: The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, famously known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), on Friday, faced scrutiny due to cracks appearing on its tar road exit towards Ulwe in Navi Mumbai. This bridge is the longest sea bridge in India, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi just five months ago.

The Congress party raised concerns about potential corruption related to these cracks on the newly inaugurated bridge. Maharashtra government authorities responded by clarifying that the minor cracks were located on the approach road connecting Atal Setu and not on the main bridge structure itself.

Maharashtra Congress Chief’s visit Atal Setu

Nana Patole, Maharashtra Congress chief, visited the site to inspect the cracks and voiced strong opinions about the situation. During his visit, Patole emphasized that their concerns were not mere allegations. He criticized the government, accusing them of corruption and prioritizing their own interests over public safety. He urged the public to strategize on removing the current administration.

How important is Atal Setu?

MMRDA clarifies

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), responsible for implementing the bridge construction, assured the public that the cracks were on the approach road, not the main bridge. MMRDA clarified that they have observed minor cracks on the approach road linking Atal Setu. They specified that this road functions as a service road and is separate from the main bridge structure. They emphasized that these cracks do not signal any structural issues and do not endanger the bridge's stability.
