Assembly Elections 2023: A Congress delegation, led by Abhishek Manu Singhvi, held discussions with the Election Commission today, pressing for action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).The delegation presented video evidence to the Election Commission, highlighting three specific MCC violations — one involving the Prime Minister and two linked to the Home Minister. Urging immediate action against the concerned officer, Singhvi questioned, Who will guard the guardianPreventive Measures in TelanganaExpressing apprehension about the potential circumvention of campaigning restrictions during the Silence Period in Telangana by the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Congress sought preventive measures. Singhvi stated that the BRS cadres were reportedly planning surrogate campaigning by wearing party-branded attire during the silence period.Credibility of the Election CommissionSinghvi stressed the importance of the Election Commission maintaining its credibility by taking swift and effective action against MCC violations. He stated that the party expects concrete and immediate steps to address the reported issues.Virtual Presence and Assurance of ActionWhile Ajay Maken and Ajoy Kumar joined the meeting virtually, Singhvi briefed reporters after the session, stating that the Election Commission assured the delegation of taking necessary action.
